Nana’s – Durham, NC

On March 19th the winner of the 2012 James Beard award for best Chef was announced and Scott Howell (pictured below) of Nana’s is a winner. The James Beard award is the highest honor for food and beverage professionals working in North America. Nana’s has become known as one of the best restaurants in NC if not the country. The food Scott creates is exquisite, flavorful, and Rolling Stone rock solid good. What makes Nana’s a bright star in the Milky Way is a culmination of the food and the excellent staff.

Below is Brad, voted best bartender in NC, and after being away for one year Brad didn’t miss a step when he asked me “the usual?” You can see Neil in the background.

And this is Katelin voted by me as the best wait staff of the evening. This is the most attentive, friendly, professional personnel I have experienced. You will not be disappointed if you get a chance to visit Nana’s. (you can see Neil in the background.)

Soft Shell Crab

Smoked Scallops, poached pears, lobster Crème Fraiche

Pasta with clams, veal bacon and pesto

The décor is inviting with whimsical paintings

Lemon tart, strawberries and homemade honey vanilla bean ice cream

If you remember the movie Spinal Tap, the rock band was proud of the fact that their guitar amp volume control went all the way to “11” not just a ten but all the way to eleven! Nana’s is an “11”

      Thank Erika,
One of my favorites…Booze is cheap in the US compare to here, and Spinal Tap, classic cult film.
